Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
What is a PHP Program?
PHP, also known as partial hospitalization program, is a structured mental health treatment program that runs for several hours each day. Clients participate in the scheduled treatment sessions during the day and return home at night. PHP is considered outpatient as it does not require 24 hour care. PHP is ideal for clients who have come from an inpatient setting who are able to maintain their independence in the community, or those who need more mental health counseling support than offered in part-time or traditional outpatient treatment. This commitment is comparable to that of a residential recovery program. For example a PHP program is an ideal solution for an individual who has completed a residential treatment program for drug or alcohol addiction.
What do PHP Programs consist of?
PHP programs can also be used to transition from inpatient to outpatient care. If you’re leaving a treatment facility or a hospital program, but feel you still need help and support, or you were referred by your healthcare provider, partial hospitalization treatment might be just what you need. PHP is the ideal choice for those who have a higher chance of relapsing, people who had severe episodes of addiction and/or overdose, those who are experiencing mental health instability, those who are still unsure about their cravings, and more importantly, anyone who wants feels that PHP is safer and is more comfortable with it. The Partial Hospitalization Program is typically a 4-6 hour program, often during the day, where those with significant or still severe mental health symptoms can seek treatment from the care of doctors, nurses, and therapists.
Identifying the most effective care for your needs is as important as the decision to seek treatment. Prior to admitting to a facility, a proper pre-assessment should be done to ensure the program and level of care is the appropriate fit for the individual. PHP programs typically consist of group therapy, psychiatric assessments, skill building, and stress management. Also, educational groups and psychiatric oversight may be provided in a structured environment to assist patients in achieving their goals for healing. The length of PHP programs vary depending on a number of different factors but can sometimes last several weeks.
The goal of our program is to prepare clients who suffer from mental illness or addiction with the skills they need to manage their lives in a safe and healthy way without excessive disruption to their daily routines.
