At Divinity Recovery, Inc., we offer detox for those battling a substance abuse disorder. Detox is the process of ridding the body of the substances in it. The purpose of detox is to most effectively manage withdrawal symptoms experienced when a person discontinues substance use. Everyone’s detox experience is different, as it depends on what was taken, and for how long.
What Happens in Detox?
As previously mentioned, everyone’s detox process is different. There are generally three stages of detox: evaluation, stabilization, and preparing to enter into treatment. The first step of the detox process is evaluation. During an evaluation, you will meet with a medical team who will screen you for physical and mental health issues. The amount of substances in your system will be determined. You will also discuss your medical, substance use, and psychiatric histories. This information will help your medical team come up with a treatment plan for you. The next step is stabilization. During this step, the goal is to prevent any harm to you. You may be prescribed medication to help ease the withdrawal symptoms you may experience while your body starts the detox process. During this process, your body will rid itself of the substance you consumed, and you will most likely experience withdrawal symptoms. These can be painful or irritating. The medical team will do everything they can to keep you as comfortable as possible. The final step of the detox process is to prepare you for entry into a treatment program. The type of treatment program you enter into will be discussed between you and your medical team to try and find the best fit for your needs.
Why Is Medical Detox Necessary?
Detox that is supervised by medical professionals is highly recommended if you are trying to discontinue substance use. Many substances have withdrawal symptoms that can be painful, dangerous, or even deadly. It is important to have proper medical guidance to ensure that you have as easy of a withdrawal process as possible.
